Honestly, glad they rescued it. Animals always deserve help. The wolf by the sounds of it realized they were helping and was very receptive to it.

it was a good nearly frozen doggo :)
(but yeah.. that made the news over here too)

I totally agree. They were awesome for rescuing it and taking it to the vet.

Yep, we had some deer get stuck in a local reservoir, but unfortunately the local fire department could get them out. I was still glad they tried though.

I don’t allow food/drink or even my wife’s purse in the cabin of my car (everything in the trunk) but would give anything to help a dog in need.

I’m a little confused why the vets weren’t sure of the species and had to have a local hunter point it out.

My, what big ears you have..

Good on them.
Those Estonians get around. I just had four of them at my place, replacing our roof. Which is in western New South Wales, Australia.

Technically wolf and dog are one in the same, a husky or malamute can look very wolf like. The wolves we have in MT are fucking huge tho, no mistaking them.

Vets deal mostly with domestic animals, and there are a shit ton of dog breeds out there. Since they thought to ask hunters, they obviously had suspicions it was a wolf.

Glad that worked out. I can see the confusion with some dogs / wolves / coyotes. Rin is fine off-leash but I’m worried some people in Colorado with guns won’t see her as a dog. So she’s not usually off-leash.

Eurasian wolf. There were campaigns to try to exterminate them way back when. Thankfully they didn’t succeed, but they’re still effectively extinct in several countries they used to inhabit.
To think that as shitty as humans can be in this day and age, we used to be so, so much worse.

If you’re the average vet, wolves are very rarely encountered. I think both the rescuers and the vets thought they might have something out of the ordinary and called a h unter.

Sometimes you just need a hug.

Yes, they’re close enough that they can and do interbreed. Wolf/dog hybrids are increasingly a thing in Europe and elsewhere as well.

There are numerious hybrid wold/dogs here too, they are not currently very popular because
the MAGA crowd likes to shoot on-
sight
anything
that resembles a wolf.

There’s a wolf research facility I’ve been involved with in the past and they’re absolutely adamant that wolf hybrids are a bad idea. Those predator genes don’t vanish after a single generation.
(Now I’m wondering about the etymology of “gene” and “generation” .)

Where do you put your wife’s purse in your single cab pickup truck?

In the bed? That's where I put my murse usually. Or if it's raining, behind the bench seat (it folds forward for storage

Personally I am not a fan, it’s like a pet mountain lion, that animal is genetically engineered to be a stone cold killer.
